Deutsche Internationale Schule | Johannesburg
Education project
The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg is an award-winning encounter school in the megacity Johannesburg.

Learning Together
In order to create more equal opportunities, the DSJ offers some children from Soweto the opportunity to graduate from school according to German standards.
What you can expect
As a volunteer you will work directly with the students and support them in the English speaking classes, as well as homework supervision and afternoon activities. Volunteers also assist in the planning and implementation of events on site. An essential part of this is the programme in Soweto, which is the first step towards the DSJ.

About the project
Not only children of German origin are taught at the DSJ. Selected pupils from currently 16 partner schools in surrounding townships attend the Saturday school on the premises of the German School for one year. Following a selection process, some of these pupils are integrated into the 5th grade. In addition to regular lessons, the DSJ sees itself as a learning and living space for the pupils. Many afternoon activities, study groups and sports events take place on the premises.
The aim is to educate the pupils to become strong and self-confident personalities who think independently and critically and act in a socially responsible manner. The school promotes the holistic development of the personality and intercultural competence of the pupils.
