As it is International Day of Education today, this is the right time to remember that education is nothing we can take for granted. Especially during the covid pandemic the access to education is even more difficult since schools in many countries are closed. “It is the time to step up collaboration and international solidarity to place education and lifelong learning at the centre of recovery and the transformation towards more inclusive, safe and sustainable societies.” . . 🇩🇪 „Bildung bietet Kindern eine Leiter aus der Armut und einen Weg in eine vielversprechende Zukunft.” Bildung ist ein Menschenrecht und Teil der 17 Sustainable Development Goals der Vereinten Nationen. Da heute der Internationale Tag der Bildung ist, ist dies ein guter Zeitpunkt, um sich daran zu erinnern, dass Bildung für viele Menschen nicht selbstverständlich ist. 🇿🇦 Hi guys, I'm Leonie. I got involved with 🇿🇦 Hi guys, I'm Leonie. I got involved with SAGE Net through my weltwaerts year 2019/20 at @zipzapcircus in Cape Town. As a volunteer, I assisted with training, participated myself and had the chance to meet so many people that made my time special. With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, all volunteers were called back to Germany in March. Since then, I have been one of the people behind SAGE Net’s social media presence. Together we created new formats, prepared content, conducted interviews... You have been seeing the results on our feed. At the same time, I decided to extend my voluntary service. Unfortunately, with the cancellation of the departure, this plan did not work out as I had hoped. Nevertheless, I had the chance to spend some time in Berlin helping out at the office and getting a glimpse behind the curtains of SAGE Net. I am still actively working from home and looking forward to many new ideas and developments that will come in the near future. . . 🇩🇪 Hallo ihr, ich bin Leonie. Seit ich SAGE Net über mein weltwärts Jahr 2019/20 kennen und lieben gelernt habe, bin ich dabei. Als Freiwillige war ich von November 2019 bis März 2020 bei @zipzapcircus in Kapstadt. Ich habe im Training unterstützt, selbst trainiert und bin sehr dankbar, dass ich so viele Menschen kennenlernen durfte, die meine Zeit zu etwas Besonderem gemacht haben. Mit dem Ausbruch der Corona Pandemie wurden alle Freiwilligen im März nach Deutschland zurückgeholt. Seitdem bin ich verantwortlich für die Gestaltung der Social Media Präsenz von SAGE Net. Zusammen haben wir uns Formate überlegt, Posts vorbereitet, Interviews geführt… Das Ergebnis unserer Arbeit kennt ihr. Gleichzeitig habe ich mich dazu entschieden, meinen Freiwilligendienst zu verlängern. Mit der Absage der Ausreise hat dieser Plan leider nicht so funktioniert, wie ich es mir erhofft habe. Trotz all dem hatte ich in die Chance, einige Zeit in Berlin im Büro mithelfen zu können und noch eine ganz andere Komponente von SAGE Net kennenlernen zu dürfen. Aus dem Home Office bin ich auch weiterhin aktiv und freue mich auf viele neue Ideen und Entwicklungen, die in der nächsten Zeit kommen werden. #active
🇿🇦 We have waited and hoped. Nevertheless, t 🇿🇦 We have waited and hoped. Nevertheless, the numbers of positive coronavirus cases have grown rather than shrunk in recent months. With the current numbers of cases in Germany and South Africa, the travel warning of the Foreign Office for South Africa is still in place and even if it would be lifted now, the timeframe to apply for departure at weltwärts would be too short. Therefore, we unfortunately have to cancel this year's north-south volunteer cohort. Nevertheless, all the volunteers who still want to spend time in South Africa will be able to keep their project place and hopefully be able to travel in September 2021. To give the volunteers a space and an outlet for the disappointment and emotions of the last months, there will be some kind of follow-up. But now it is time to focus our energies on new tasks and put an end to the anxiety. We are happy about everyone who continues to be a part of the SAGE Net family and stays involved with us. . . 🇩🇪 Wir haben gewartet und gehofft. Trotzdem sind die Zahlen positiver Coronavirus-Fälle in den letzten Monaten eher gewachsen statt geschrumpft. Mit den jetzigen Fallzahlen in Deutschland und Südafrika besteht die Reisewarnung des auswärtigen Amtes noch immer und selbst wenn diese jetzt aufgehoben würde, wäre der Zeitraum, um einen Ausreiseantrag bei weltwärts zu stellen zu knapp. Deshalb müssen wir den diesjährigen Nord-Süd Freiwilligenjahrgang leider absagen. Nichtsdestotrotz soll jede*r, die*der weiterhin Lust auf die Zeit in Südafrika hat, den Projektplatz behalten können und kann somit bei einer Ausreise im September 2021 dabei sein. Um den Freiwilligen einen Raum und ein Ventil für die Enttäuschung und Emotionen der letzten Monate zu geben, soll es Art Nachbereitung geben. Doch jetzt ist es an der Zeit, dass wir unsere Energien gebündelt auf neue Aufgaben lenken und dem Bangen ein Ende setzen. 🇿🇦 Hello, My name is Pamela and I was in Sou 🇿🇦 Hello, My name is Pamela and I was in South Africa with SAGE Net in 2016/2017. I was in Cape Town and worked at Fountain House, which is just one of many @capementalhealth ‘s programs. The organization has been active in various areas for over 100 years and supports people with disabilities and their relatives. Since my voluntary service, I've been an alumni at SAGE Net and have been attending some seminars and application processes. It is always exciting to exchange ideas and thoughts with volunteers and alumni. It was especially nice to welcome the new volunteers from South Africa to Germany and to experience the first orientation days with them and hopefully to give them some courage. I also have a brief career as a south-north mentor in Bremen. I hope to be able to resume it as soon as volunteers come to Bremen again. . . 🇩🇪 Moin, Ich heiße Pamela und war 2016/2017 mit SAGE Net in Kapstadt, Südafrika. Ich arbeitete im Fountain House, das nur eins von vielen Programmen von @capemenatlhealth ist. Die Organisation ist bereits seit über 100 Jahren in verschiedenen Bereichen tätig und unterstützt Menschen mit Beeinträchtigungen sowie deren Angehörige. Seit meinem Freiwilligendienst bin ich als Alumni bei SAGE Net und besuche das ein oder andere Seminar und Auswahlverfahren. Es ist immer wieder spannend, mit Bewerber*innen, Freiwilligen und Alumni in den Austausch zu gehen. Besonders schön war es, die neuen Freiwilligen aus Südafrika in Deutschland begrüßen zu dürfen und die ersten Orientierungstage mit ihnen zu erleben und hoffentlich etwas Mut zu machen. Eine kurz anhaltende Karriere als Süd-Nord Mentorin in Bremen habe ich auch hinter mir. 🇩🇪 Kurz vor dem Ende der Apartheid wird die 🇩🇪 Kurz vor dem Ende der Apartheid wird die US-amerikanische Studentin Amy Biehl während eines Aufstands in Gugulethu, einem Township Kapstadts, umgebracht. Diese Ereignis sorgte für großes Aufsehen - war die Studentin doch nach Kapstadt gekommen, um die Menschen, die sie umbrachten, auf die erste demokratische Wahl und den Weg aus der Apartheid vorzubereiten. In ihrem Roman „Mother to Mother” beschreibt Sindiwe Magona dieses wahre Ereignis aus Sicht der Mutter des Mörders, Mandisa. Die Leser durchleben mit ihr nicht nur die Ereignisse des verhängnisvollen Tages im August 1993 sondern reisen auch zurück in ihre Vergangenheit und die ihres Sohnes Mxolisi. Emotional und detailreich wird das Aufwachsen in Apartheid Südafrika beschrieben und dem Publikum näher gebracht. . . 🇿🇦 Just before Apartheid ended, Amy Biehl, a student from the US, was killed during a riot in Gugulethu, a township of Cape Town. This incident caused a great stir. Amy Biehl had come to Cape Town to support the people for the first fully democratic election, away from aparthied. Later, she was killed by the same people she wanted to work with. In her novel “Mother to Mother”, Sindiwe Magona describes these events through the murderer’s mother’s eyes. The reader does not only experience the happenings of this fateful day in August 1933 but also joins Mandisa - the mother - on a journey into the past. Mandisa’s upbringing as well as her son Mxolisi’s childhood are illustrated. In an emotional and detailed way, the audience learns about what it meant to grow up in South Africa under the Apartheid Regime. 🇩🇪 Lerne Dambisa Dube kennen! Sie ist intern 🇩🇪 Lerne Dambisa Dube kennen! Sie ist internationale Entwicklungshelferin und setzt sich als Jugendaktivistin ein. Dambisa hat umfangreiche Erfahrung in der engen Zusammenarbeit mit zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen vor allem im südlichen Afrika. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf Jugendentwicklung, Resilienz und Austausch - sowohl persönlich als auch beruflich. Bevor sie für die GIZ als Beraterin tätig war, arbeitete sie für SAGE Net als Administratorin und Moderatorin und ist nun Teil des südafrikanischen Vorstands mit dem Fokus auf Alumni-Support u.a. Mit ihrem Hintergrund in Politikwissenschaften ist sie auch Teil vieler gemeinschaftsbasierter Initiativen und nutzt ihre Stimme durch ihren Podcast #DialoguesWithDee, der darauf abzielt, junge Menschen und marginalisierte Gruppen in den Mittelpunkt demokratischer Prozesse zu stellen. Sie ist Mutter eines 6-jährigen Kindes und eine extrovertierte Person, die immer neue Wege findet, mit Menschen in Kontakt zu treten. „umntu ngumuntu nabantu” - Eine Person wird durch die Person um sie herum zu derjenigen, die sie ist. Dies bildet die Basis zur gemeinschaftlicher Zusammenarbeit. . . 🇿🇦 Meet Dambisa Dube! She is an international development professional and youth activist. Dambisa has extensive experience of working closely with Civil Society Organizations mostly in southern Africa with a focus on youth development, resilience and exchange both personally and professionally. Prior to working for GIZ as an advisor she worked for SAGE Net as an administrator and facilitator and is now part of the South African board with a focus on alumni support amongst other things. With her background in Political Sciences she is also part of many community based initiatives and uses her voice through her podcast #DialoguesWithDee aimed at placing young people and marginalised groups in the center of democratic processes.
