Get together: The first live meeting

On 29 July it was finally time again! The first live meeting since the beginning of the Corona Pandemic was something very special for us. Towards evening we met at the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin. With good food, we were all a little excited to see the old familiar faces live again.

We brought each other up to date. A lot has happened in the last year for each individual. We were only able to share and communicate most of it via Zoom. The great weather only rounded off the evening.

Some of the new volunteers were also there. We were especially happy about that. After the seminars that took place, the departure is eagerly awaited!

The long awaited reunion

It was great to see familiar faces again and to finally see new faces in real life after months of online meetings! Looking forward to the next meeting!

As a newcomer in the round and familiar at the same time, I experienced this mixture of feelings at the picnic with the SAGE net community. In the meantime, my application for voluntary service in South Africa was 1½ years behind me and according to the original schedule, I would slowly prepare for the return journey to Germany. Then the pandemic intervened and postponed everything indefinitely. The meeting was a nice opportunity to get to know the people in person, whom I had only known from video conferences and e-mails. After months of Zoom fatigue, a relaxed evening on Tempelhofer Feld was simply good. Many people shared their memories of the varied time they had spent doing their own voluntary service and awakened in me the anticipation, curiosity and hope that things will work out after all and that the long-postponed departure can come.
