SAGE Net Year in Review 2021

The year 2021 was exciting for all of us and associated with many uncertainties. Nevertheless, we also experienced quite a few good news and stories.

Without the energetic commitment of alumni, volunteers, members and volunteers, much would not have been possible.

A HUGE THANK YOU FOR THAT!

Working groups work

In 2020, we formed various working groups due to the premature departure of our volunteers. These have now become firmly established and have also been professionalized through various webinars and further training.

Thus, SAGE Net posts every week on the website and on social media.

Nevertheless, we are always on the lookout for motivated individuals who are interested in joining in and contributing their own ideas to our network. More information about the working groups can be found HERE.

SAGE Net events

Throughout the year, SAGE Net organized various events that we look back on with pleasure:
In March, we hosted a digital Talk and Q&A with Dambisa Dube on “Covid- Situation in South Africa.” This was about the impact of the Corona Pandemic. You can find out more about Dambisa and current topics in South Africa in her podcast.
In summer a live meeting could finally take place on the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin. During a picnic we met new and familiar faces. We exchanged ideas about what had happened and spent a pleasant evening together.
Another digital lecture took place in August on the political unrest in South Africa. Our guest Mthetheleli Promise Kambula first presented current facts and figures. Then he focused on the background of the events. Afterwards, there was a discussion with each other.

Voluntary service in Germany

Also this year the departure of the SAGE Net volunteers had to be postponed due to the Corona Pandemic. However, we are not letting this get us down and fortunately we were able to hold a preparation seminar in Presence in November. We are also happy to report that despite the postponed departure, some decided to accept their volunteer status. Thereby they could try themselves in the areas of public relations, web design and project management and already become part of the SAGE Net Family.
After a long wait, the cohort is finally leaving at the beginning of January.

Kalender und Merchandising

Also this year there was a SAGE Net calendar. This time the fundraising team collected pictures from South Africa and Germany in one calendar.

Additionally there was a new project which was released in July 2021. The cohort waiting for departure worked on a merchandise collection. As “Together We Grow” the collection is available in the own SAGE Net Onlineshop.

Since September 2021 we have new members on both our board. We are looking forward to a new year with many projects and wish everyone a
HAPPY 2022!
